Spectramatic Beacon, is a metaphysical representation of a sun -a beacon- that represents the resiliency that flows through this actively growing multi-generational Ward 8  communities in general and those of Hillsdale and Fort Stanton neighborhoods.

The foundation of this artwork is composed of a chicken wire framework. It is a circular shape approximately 120 x 156 in. This framework is woven with a multitude of colored, patterned and textured fabric-based materials, such as clothes and ribbons.

In 2016, Stonesifer, President/CEO, of Martha’s Table contacted me about commissioning a public artwork for the organization’s new headquarters. The Commons, 2375 Elvans Road, SE, Washington, DC  20020.

Stonesifer specifically wanted a textile chicken wire sculpture to be featured in the lobby, welcoming visitors to their new headquarters.  Additionally, Stonesifer sought a public artwork to commemorate the rich history and vibrant culture of the Hillsdale and Fort Stanton neighborhoods and its people. Spectrumatic Beacon was revealed to the public at the public opening of its new headquarters.

Martha’s Table, founded in 1980, originally located 14th Street NW, DC, is a family-centered organization dedicated to support strong children, strong families and strong communities by increasing access to quality education programs, healthy food, and family supports.
