Remembering Who I Am
Assemblage and Collage on Fabric, Series, 2019
Remembering who I am, is a personal collage quilt, a compilation of constructed images and concepts regarding self love, relishing life and romantic love. A visual representation of my conversations with the universe regarding past, future and most importantly the present, as I am dealing with a break-up.
Creating this artwork awakened a pressing desire to visually organize what is important to me and what feeds my spirit. In some sense, I wanted to visually represent the ecosystem of my wholeness and life. It served as a reminder of how to realign my energy, learn from the experience, release what need be, grow and heal forward. The quilt is imbued with the underpinnings of the cultural and aesthetic constructs of my Caribbean heritage and influences of Gees Bend Quilters, the artwork of Alma Thomas, Love Duality by artist Mark Walker and the visual matrixes and or systems that connect light, plant cells, fabric, tissue and human skin.
