LIVING ON THE LAND, CURATED BY JAYME MCLELLAN

May 18, 2017 by kauffmaneck

June 1 – August 5, SU Art Galleries, Downtown Campus

Third Friday, July 21, 5-7pm

Third Friday Reception, June 16, 5-7pm

Projects explore the remnants of stories and traces of history left behind in objects and ideas as well as our shared obligation to protect the environment and heal the land. Work considers the cyclical nature of life and death; our obligations to each other to connect, to heal, and to grow thoughtful and engaged communities; and power and disparities in contemporary culture, including the legacy of slavery on the Eastern Shore. Artists work in a variety of media including black and white and color photography, site-specific installation, video, sculpture, painting, and more. One artist will build a medicine wheel to heal the land, another will engage with a local youth group to build a collaboration with a similar group in Baltimore. Salisbury community artists will contribute works relevant to the theme of what it means to live on the land.
